We ALL Belong!

Any student, staff, or community member that walks through the doors of Fox Creek instantly becomes a member of our Crew.  In our classroom, we have had many discussions about how to make others feel welcome and what it looks like to be a member of our Crew.  Students continue to reflect on how showing and growing our Habits of Character has a positive impact on others and fosters a sense of belonging in our Crew.

One of the ways our Crew has worked on creating a culture of belonging in our classroom is through "Me Bags."  Each student brought in 3-5 items in a brown paper bag that helped us understand and learn more about each other.  Students shared their items with the Crew, then placed them on display in our "Crewseum" (Crew Museum).  Students established connections with each other that they didn't know they shared and worked to get to know each other on a deeper level.

Students also participated in various collaborative activities including "The Marshmallow Challenge" and "Save Sam."  Our Crew identified ideas on what successful collaboration looks like and sounds like.  Be sure to ask your child about these exciting activities.

Students worked to identify what our Crew needs in order to be successful this year.  After collecting and organizing the data, we collaborated to write our Crew Norms.

We read our Crew Norms every morning as we begin our day.  Students decided that it was important to add the message, "Everyone in our Crew is loved and appreciated" because they want anyone who walks in our classroom to know that they belong.  We ALL Belong!
